Nora Lewis

Nora Lewis joined the URI community in 1992 as University photographer. Over the years she has transitioned from days spent in the darkroom to digital photography. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, a Master of Arts in holistic counseling, and a certificate of advanced graduate studies in the professional applications of the expressive and creative arts, both from Salve Regina University in Newport.

Nora considers herself a visual storyteller, documenting the people, places, and activities on and off campus, to be preserved as a record for all time. Her responsibilities include creating images for the University’s CASE award-winning alumni publication, the University of Rhode Island Magazine, Admission recruitment materials, college brochures, press releases, and the University’s website, in addition to covering all major University events.

She was the recipient of the URI Foundation’s 2014 Staff Excellence Award. Nora’s work has appeared in a variety of publications, and her photographs have been widely exhibited, receiving numerous awards. A fan of all things Italian, she recently completed a one-month artist residency in Venice.
