In conjunction with their one-year AmeriCorps program, fellows receive the AmeriCorps Segal Education Award of $6,495 upon successful completion of each year of the AmeriCorps program (maximum of two years), which can be used for future schooling or additional school expenses in addition to health insurance reimbursement for basic dental, health, and vision insurance and partial childcare reimbursements. The fellowship also provides a full-time, paid position for awardees and fully paid retreats throughout the program.
As AmeriCorps service members, fellows will have access to the entire national network of connections that are focused on making the country a more positive place to live. Further, as alumni of the fellowship program itself, fellows have the opportunity to receive training on how to run for office, create social ventures, and be members of public leadership. Further, there are alumni graduate scholarships available at select schools as well as grants of up to $2,500 for alumni-headed entrepreneurial initiatives to serve their communities.
All of these benefits are in addition to the ability to provide a small town with tremendous amounts of support and assistance. The resume building, networking, and educational funding opportunities are vast, as are the opportunities to help others through this experience.
