You’ll know the change makers when you meet them: professors, staff, and students coming together to discover nonviolent solutions to world problems and promote peace; scholars devoted to fostering intercultural understanding; and students training for international development field work in the Peace Corps.
At URI you will find a community of people committed to making positive change in the world.
The Center For Nonviolence & Peace Studies
The URI Center for Nonviolence & Peace Studies was initially conceived by a group of faculty and staff who shared a common interest in studying and promoting nonviolence. It offers academic courses in nonviolence and peace, training in Kingian nonviolence techniques, community outreach projects, and the International Nonviolence Summer Institute, which brings people from all over the world.
Peace Corps Prep Program
The Peace Corps Prep program provides students with the language skills and cultural understanding they will need for a productive and meaningful Peace Corps experience and establish a foundation for careers in the international development field.
Students receive professional training and experience, foreign language skills, professional and leadership development, intercultural competence, and resume support.
