Biography

Laurie Ann Carlson is an adjunct instructor of GWS at URI. She is also a Professor of English at North Shore Community College in MA, where she serves as chair of the departments of Gender & Women’s Studies, Environmental Studies, & Interdisciplinary Studies. She completed her Ph.D. in American Literature at the University of Rhode Island (2011), with her dissertation, “Wired for Interdependency: Disabling Cyborg Identities in Feminist Science Fiction.”

She received her Master’s degree from Fitchburg State College and her bachelor’s degree from Worcester State College. Her work has appeared in Future Humans in Fiction and Film (2018), Feminist Media Studies, ADA: A Journal of Gender, New Media, & Technology, The Ashgate Encyclopedia of Literary and Cinematic Monsters (2014), and in Disability in Comic Books and Graphic Narratives (2016). Her research interests are in Disability Studies, Feminist Science Fiction, Intersectional Feminism, American Literature, Popular Culture, and Gender & Women’s Studies. She is also a cyborg.
