Minor
The minor in Sports Media and Communication exposes students to historical, critical, analytical, practical and professional approaches to sports media and communication. Students who complete the minor will understand how to critically and effectively evaluate sport as a cultural artifact and to produce professional sports content using a variety of technologies and media.
To complete a minor, students must do the following:
- Declare the minor by filling out this College of Arts & Science minor declaration form, acquiring the appropriate signatures and sending it to casforms@uri.edu; (we advise student do this before embarking on the coursework),
- Students are required to complete 18 credit hours of coursework to earn the minor:
- Nine of the credit hours must include:
- SMC101 The Sports Media Industry
- SMC201 Sports Audiences & Fandom
- SMC203 Sports, Media & Culture
- The other nine may be earned by taking SMC courses or other related courses with the approval of the program director,
- At least 12 of the 18 credits must be at 200-level or higher.
