The Harrington School of Communication and Media’s Journalism degree features innovative curriculum grounded in the fundamental skills of news reporting across platforms from print to television and radio and the multi-media world of internet journalism. You’ll engage with our dynamic faculty of experienced reporters, editors TV news reporters and filmmakers in small classes, which guarantees individual attention. Faculty pride themselves on knowing their students well and working with them closely as they proceed through the curriculum. Individual faculty supervise independent study projects for students who want to use their new skills on special endeavors or specialize in particular reporting areas.
All majors are required to take courses in basic reporting skills, multimedia reporting skills, law, and ethics. They also produce a portfolio website, which they use to document the work they do over their four years in the program. In between that, they are able to take classes in magazine writing, TV news reporting and program production, advanced multi-media reporting focusing on a special topic such as ocean pollution, climate change and others.
