Overview
URI’s Master of Library and Information Studies is one of the first accelerated online MLIS programs, allowing students to complete within 2 years. This program provides professionals with knowledge and expertise in library and information services (across multiple sectors), management of information services, and information science, technology, and equity.
Graduates benefit from the experiential education and mandatory internships offered, as well as the robust alumni network our longstanding institution maintains. With the mentorship of dedicated faculty and advisors, students can tailor programs in a personalized manner to fit their needs.
Careers
Upon completion of the program, professionals will find career opportunities in public, school, and special library settings in communities throughout the United States and abroad in major cities, corporations, government and nonprofit organizations. Job titles include:
- Librarian – Manage library collections, assist patrons in finding information, and develop programs and services to promote literacy and lifelong learning within the community.
- Archivist – Responsible for appraising, organizing, preserving, and providing access to historical records and documents, ensuring their integrity and availability for research and historical inquiry.
- Information Specialist – Gather, organize, and disseminate information to meet needs of organization or clients, employing various resources to ensure efficient access and utilization of information.
