National Public Health Week

The Department of Public Health community celebrated National Public Health Week
(April 1-7, 2024) with a week-long series of events.

Students participated in two webinars, one on the experiences of our alumni, Portia
Eastman, MPH, and Shades Olowookere, MPH, MHA, who work at the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC). The second webinar featured our alumni, Sarah Ogundare,
MPH, and Heidi Weidele, who are working at the Rhode Island Department of Health to
control the ongoing overdose epidemic.

Our community also participated in several training and demonstrations sponsored by URI
Health Services and the URI College of Pharmacy, including suicide prevention training,
handwashing demonstrations, Narcan training, CPR training, and a Public Health Bingo
night! The URI Public Health Club also organized a campus cleanup and a campus walk.

The week was a great success! Mark your calendars and get involved for next year’s
