RA Application Information

Thank you for being interested in applying to be a Resident Assistant (RA)
for the 2025-2026 Academic Year!

You will find the application on URI My Housing under the section
Employment Applications. We have provided you the questions below to draft
on Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or PDF as you are answering them in case
the site logs you out.

Below you will find information about the application process and questions
to answer for New RA Application. Response will need to be uploaded in
Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or PDF.
Personal Statement Section:

In 500 words or less, we want to be introduced to who you are as a
candidate. In your statement, be sure to include a thoughtful response as
to why you want to be an RA. Identify 3 skills and/or experiences you have
that will help you succeed in this position and include examples for each.
Overall, your personal statement should speak to what makes you a solid
candidate.

Additional Question Section:Community Building and Development

Think about communities or groups you’ve been a part of. These might
include your residence hall community, a student organization, athletic
team, religious organization, extra curricular, etc. Answers for each
question should be between 250-300 words minimally.

What does community mean to you?

What attributes make a welcoming, safe, and connected community?

Consider the relationships and communities you have been involved with.
In what ways have you taken on responsibilities or leadership within those
groups?

How would you utilize your past experiences to foster a welcoming and
inclusive residence hall community?

Diversity and Inclusion

As an HRL staff member, you will be responsible for fostering an inclusive
community for residents with diverse personal and social identities (e.g.
race, sex, gender, sexual identity, nationality, class, ability, religion,
etc.) disciplines, and backgrounds. Answers for each question should be
between 250-300 words minimally.

How have your personal and social identities (as listed above) informed
your understanding of diversity and social justice?

Provide an example of how you have intentionally built relationships
with people who have different social identities, disciplines, or
backgrounds than you.

How would you use this experience to promote inclusion with your
residents and fellow staff members?
