Junior Faculty Summer Stipend

Purpose: The Junior Faculty Summer Stipend is a one-time opportunity for one Assistant or Associate faculty member in the humanities to earn $3,500 to devote to research that is of value to humanities scholars, general audiences, or both. Eligible projects should result in articles, monographs, books, digital materials and publications, archaeological site reports, or translations. Projects must not result solely in the collection of data; instead they must also incorporate analysis and interpretation. In the Fall of 2019, the stipend recipient will be expected to lead a Connecting Conversations seminar. There they will share their discoveries, but also workshop any questions, conundrums, or points of tension that arose during their research.

Eligibility: There do not need to be any material or travel costs involved in order to apply for this stipend. Those who plan to teach in the summer are not eligible. The recipient may not use the Summer Stipend for the development of curriculum, teaching methods or theories, educational or technical impact assessments, or empirical social science research, unless part of a larger humanities project. Only Assistant and Associate Professors are eligible; preference will be given to Assistant Professors. Applicants who have previously received a grant from the Center and have not yet submitted a funding report are not eligible.
