Pa-Gya: A 20th Century Ghanaian Poetry Anthology is a creative and scholarly project rooted in archival research and informed by African oral storytelling traditions. Afia Ansong’s project responds to long-standing gaps in mainstream African poetry anthologies, many of which have historically been edited outside the continent and have overlooked the cultural, linguistic, and historical specificity of Ghanaian literary production. By centering Ghanaian voices from the decades surrounding independence, this anthology foregrounds poetry that reflects everyday life, national consciousness, and the complexities of identity beyond dominant narratives of decolonization.
