Over the course of the next year, Rachel Walshe has three projects that require an intersection of performance and research. Plays in Place demands deep engagement with the history of Hunter House in Newport and its formative role in the Revolutionary War. Machinal: Ballet will require researching and activating the Jazz Age and the role of women in early 1920s America. The English Understand Wool is an exciting and unique dramaturgical challenge requiring bringing a contemporary novella to life onstage. The novella ranges across several continents, cultures, and languages. It is, in many ways, a pure celebration of “culture.”
