Congratulations to Afua Ansong of the English department! Afua is the recipient of URI’s 2020-2021 Writing Award in the Scholarly/Research category. Ansong is a Ghanian American writer, dancer, and photographer who recently published her chapbook manuscript, Try Kissing God, as part of the prestigious African Poetry Book Fund Series edited by Kwame Dawes and Chris Abani.

Ansong is also a two-time winner of the Center for the Humanities Graduate Research Award, as well as a presenter in CFH’s 2020-2021 Brown Bag Series. To read more about Ansong’s incredible research and creative work, check out her personal website here!
