Annu Palakunnathu Matthew has been making photo-based works of art that examine lesser known histories and immigration for over twenty years. Her work draws on personal experience and identity, while collaborating with the stories of others from South Asia. Palakunnathu Matthew features photographic, installation, and sculpture works that incorporate both still and moving images and sound. She finds inspiration from archival photographs to re-examine historical narrative and the legacies of colonization, recovering and presenting many all-too neglected histories.
The opening reception for “ReVision” featuring works by artist, photographer, and professor Annu Palakunnathu Matthew is scheduled for Thursday, September 30 from 5-7 pm at the Newport Art Museum (76 Bellevue Ave). The event is free for museum members, and $10 suggested donation for the general public. To learn more about the artist and the exhibition, visit the website here.
