My Favorite Yoga Classes on Campus

I didn’t start taking advantage of the classes Campus Rec offered until the beginning of this school year. As someone who loves to do yoga, I felt like there were not many options for when I first came to school.

Usually, I would turn to youtube and put on Yoga with Adriene to practice a daily flow. While I love her content and the internet makes it easier for people to access these outlets, sometimes there is still a disconnect between practicing online and with others in person.

Until last semester when I wanted to try something new. So I found a few classes I could attend. Last semester my go to yoga classes was with instructor Ann. I would regularly go to her Tuesday night and Friday morning classes as a way to either unwind or start my day.

However, with the change in schedule, and new semester I have had to find new times that work well for me. My tried-and-true yoga class for this semester has been Wednesdays at noon with instructor Ali. For me this serves as the perfect mid-day, mid-week check in to see how I am feeling.

Bending BackwardsAli typically hosts a very gentle practice that is suitable for any level of yoga. She always reminds you to take things at your own pace and to let the practice take you where you want to go. One of my favorite parts is ending class with guided meditations in savasana. So far we have covered imagery, loving-kindness, and other meditative practices that allow us to be more mindful. It also always helps when your taste in music aligns with the instructor. So I get to practice what I love, while listening to music I love.

A class that is very popular this semester is Thursday afternoons at 4:30 with instructor Josquin. Josquin’s classes are almost always full, and they practice with a positive attitude and welcoming atmosphere. They encourage the students to keep trying and gently help them to fix their form so they get the most benefit out of the movement.

Planking YogaLastly, I have been trying to make it to Friday morning yoga classes at 7:30 like I did last semester. Unfortunately, I have not been able to make it to one over the past couple weeks. However when I went last semester, I found it was always a nice place for me to gently greet the day and end the week on a positive note.

These are only a few of the many instructors who guide you during yoga practices here on campus. I encourage everyone to try to find one class you could go to, even if you have never practiced before. It’s a great way to start, and could even become part of your weekly routine.
