Welcome back: Senior Year!

Listen to Madeline’s blog here.

Welcome back to The University of Rhode Island Fall 2022 Semester! Whether you are a returning student, or a first year, we are excited to have you on campus for this semester.

A little bit about me, I am a senior here at URI. I have a double major in Journalism and Spanish, and a double minor in Art and Gender and Women’s Studies. I am the photo editor for the school’s newspaper, The Good Five Cent Cigar. As well as a Program assistant for Campus Rec’s marketing team!

As the school year begins I want to share what’s on my must do for returning back to school.

1. Spend some time at Narragansett beach.

Whether it’s a full on beach day or a trip to watch the sunset and catch up with you friends. I always look forward to getting back to the Ocean state.

2. Buy a coffee from 193 degree coffee house.

Two coffee mugs on a table lit up by the golden sunAn iced coffee, or a dirty chai from our student run coffee shop is one of my favorite places to get some studying on campus. It’s a bonus that the people who run it are so nice, and they give you your coffee in a fun mug.

3. Pick up some produce at URI’s free farmers market.

Fruits and veggies at a farmers market

Last fall, I found myself at the free farmers market on the quad whenever I could. This is not only a great way to share food locally grown, but it also helps a lot as a student where it is hard to get fresh produce due to time constraints and cost. The produce at these stands would vary depending on the week and what time you got there. But I always found whatever they could give me for the week would be in a dinner of mine.

4. Spend some time in the URI green houses.

A great escape from the chaos of classes is the URI Greenhouses. Featuring a variety of different plants, a pond with koi fish, a turtle named frank and some frogs that wandered in, the greenhouses are always a little getaway.

5. Go to a Group exercise class.

I can talk about how much I love group exercise classes forever. There’s a reason for my obsession. Not only are the instructors of Group Ex classes nice, welcoming and helpful, the classes are fun, easy to follow along with, and a great way to fit in a workout.

What are some things you like to do when you come back to school? Did I have anything on my list you want to try?
