Welcome back from winter break, Rams! As some of us make our way back into our academics during J-term, we have some new and healthy habits into the New Year. Whether that’s by exercising or eating healthier, the New Year is an opportunity to start fresh and continue incorporating wellness into your daily routine. For students staying on campus during J-term, here are some of the fitness and wellness services we provide at Campus Recreation throughout the winter semester so you can incorporate healthy habits this new year!
Recreational Facilities
Here at the University of Rhode Island, we offer a wide variety of locations to practice wellness. From January 4th through January 21st, the Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness Center will be open from 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM on weekdays and from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM on weekends. As for our other locations on campus, be sure to check out our website for more information on facility hours. Our Sailing Center will be open again in April after the winter season, but with these many spaces available on campus, you can still practice health habits and stay active during J-term. There are plenty of options to fit your routine, whether you like to lift weights, swim laps, or simply find a space to move your body. Each space has different types of equipment, weight rooms, cardio, and more, to help contribute to a healthy balance. We also have brand-new strength training equipment at the Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness Center and Mackal Field House to level up your workouts! As the spring semester approaches, we encourage all students to make use of these resources, try out new things, and take care of themselves.
Group Exercise Classes

The variety of group exercise classes available during our facility hours makes it easier than ever to be active on campus. Whether you want to relax, work up a sweat, or try something new, there is something for everyone. Pilates, yoga, cycling, body pump, glute camp, arms & abs, and many more classes we offered at Campus Recreation. Most of these classes are offered at the Anna Fascitelli Fitness and Wellness Center, which has three dedicated spaces designed to elevate your workout experience: the high-energy Group Exercise Studio, the calming Mind/Body Studio, and the lively Spin Studio. Each space is purposefully designed to match the vibe of each class, helping you get the most out of the experience. Every class benefits from the passion and support of our certified instructors, who foster a friendly environment where all students can thrive. Group classes are also a great opportunity to connect with other Rams, find out what works for you, and feel supported by our instructors. If you are interested in signing up for a class or have any questions, be sure to check out Campus Recreation’s IMLeagues website and stop by to explore what Campus Rec has to offer.
Campus Recreation supports stress relief, community building, and academic balance during J-term, not just physical fitness. We foster social, emotional, and intellectual wellness through many affordable programs and services that are committed to inclusivity, welcoming all fitness levels and identities.
At Campus Rec, we will continue to promote our mission and values of “Be Active. Be Well. Belong” into the New Year and encourage students to promote wellness in their lives here at the University of Rhode Island. Have a great year, Rams!
