Francoise Morison, Gayantonia Franze and Susanne Menden-Deuer will be presenting at the 2018 Ocean Sciences meeting in Portland, Oregon. In addition to our scientific presentations, we are also contributing to the art exhibit ‘from tide pools to the stars‘ with works by Cynthia Beth Rubin.
On our way to the Ocean Sciences Meeting, Portland

Our lives as humans are bound to the rarely seen and the invisible microscopic life of the ocean. Constructed as nearly abstract paintings, these works invite the viewer to swim with the plankton, the jellyfish, and the krill that make life on our planet sustainable. Raw source material is from Antarctica and the North Atlantic, as well as microscopic captures of plankton from Narragansett Bay, interpreted both digitally and in hand drawings. The works are collaborations between digital artist Cynthia Beth Rubin and Oceanographers in the Menden-Deuer lab at the University of Rhode Island, who gathered the raw imagery from oceans near and far.
