Metcalf Institute Impact Accelerator Fund
in appreciation of the visionary leadership by Dr. Sunshine Menezes
Thanks to a visionary philanthropic initiative that launched in June 2021, Metcalf Institute is making significant strides toward scaling up its impact.
The fittingly named Metcalf Institute Impact Accelerator Fund in appreciation of the visionary leadership by Dr. Sunshine Menezes (IAF), is a $1 million initiative that makes strategic investments in capacity. Thanks to the IAF and our generous donors, Metcalf and our partners at the URI Foundation & Alumni Engagement (URIFAE) secured dedicated development capacity for the Institute in January 2022. Through partnership with the URIFAE, we are well over halfway towards reaching our $1M overall goal and the IAF has catalyzed additional funding opportunities that are expanding our team, our programs, and our impacts:
- In 2024, we will launch a novel climate and environmental science fellowship for local journalists, thanks to support from van Beuren Charitable Foundation and private donors.
- Earlier in 2023, with support from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, the Rita Allen Foundation and their Civic Science Associates program, and the Burroughs Wellcome Fund, we hired Dr. Emily Cribas to further support the inclusive science community and expand ISC programming.
Now, to help us reach the IAF’s $1M goal by June 2024, and in recognition of former Executive Director Dr. Sunshine Menezes’s years of leadership, an anonymous donor has stepped forward, promising to match all gifts, dollar for dollar, up to $125,000.
