Graduate Audition Requirements
Conducting students in the Master of Music in Performance/Conducting degree program may concentrate in choral, orchestral, or wind band areas. Major work in the conducting degrees includes advanced conducting, analytical studies, score reading, orchestration, arranging, performance-related writing, and conducting practica.
Applicants to all conducting graduate degree programs are expected to present undergraduate credentials equivalent to those earned at the University of Rhode Island.
All Master of Music majors in conducting are required to audition via submitted recording. Applicants should prepare a professional quality recording approximately 20 minutes in length that demonstrates a variety of conducting styles. In addition, all conductors should submit a list of repertoires conducted and provide programs when possible.
Recordings can be emailed to music@uri.edu. You are welcome to submit your recording via a Google Drive or YouTube link. (If you are using YouTube we recommend making your video “unlisted”.)
Please include your name in the email and/or file name.
Along with all course requirements, candidates for the Master of Music in Conducting must present a public concert.

The application for admission as a conducting major will not be processed until the audition recording has been reviewed. A “live” audition may be scheduled upon written request from the candidate in consultation with the appropriate advisor.
