Dan Liparini

 

 

Biography

Dan Liparini is a guitarist, composer, and educator based in Providence, Rhode Island. He studied Jazz Performance and Composition at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the Hartt School of Music and earned a Master’s degree in Jazz Arranging and Composition from William Paterson University. In 2025, he was awarded First Prize at the 6th Jarek Śmietana International Jazz Guitar Competition.

As a bandleader, Dan has released two albums of original music: Tessellations (2020), featuring his quartet, and Miss You, Dear Old Friend (2024), an acoustic duo recording with bassist Alex Tremblay released on La Reserve Records. He also appears on pianist Jen Allen’s 2025 release Possibilities.

Throughout his career, Dan has had the opportunity to study with many of his musical idols, including Vic Juris, Russell Malone, Lage Lund, Jonathan Kreisberg, Steve Davis, Bill Charlap, Mike LeDonne, and Jonathan Blake. He has performed with musicians from around the world such as Steve Davis, Wayne Escoffery, Steve LaSpina, Kush Abadey, Jonathan Barber, Jen Allen, and Kris Allen.

As both a bandleader and sideman, Dan has appeared at notable venues and festivals across the Northeast, including the Newport Jazz Festival, Smalls Jazz Club, Ornithology Jazz Club, Dizzy’s Club, and the Side Door Jazz Club. An active educator, he has taught privately since 2013 and has been on faculty at the Litchfield Jazz Camp since 2017.
