James Ladewig, Emeritus

Biography

Professor Emeritus of Music at the University of Rhode Island. Author of chapters and articles in publications including Studi Musicali (1981); Frescobaldi Studies (1987); The Journal of Musicology (1991); A Compendium of American Musicology (2001). Editor of Editor, 19 vols, Italian Instrumental Music of the Sixteenth and Early Seventeenth Centuries (Garland Publications, 1987-95). Service: 20 years as AMS Treasurer and member of Board of Directors; Chair of the Finance Committee and ex officio member of the Development Committee; Editor of the AMS Newsletter (1987-90); President of the New England AMS Chapter (1986-88).

Ladewig is responsible for expanding the URI music history curriculum from the traditional classical repertory to include world music, jazz, and popular music. A specialist in the Renaissance and Baroque eras, in particular instrumental and keyboard music of Italy, he has published numerous scholarly articles.
