Olaia O’Malley Gorbea

Biography

Olaia was born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She possesses a wealth of experience working with a wide range of musical traditions, populations, cultures, and age groups. Olaia earned her Bachelor of Music Therapy degree with a double major in Psychology from Loyola University New Orleans. She is a founding member of the Puerto Rican Music Therapy Association, currently serving as the President of the Latin American Music Therapy Network, and holding the position of Executive Secretary for the Puerto Rican Professional Association of Rhode Island. In her professional capacity, Olaia offers neurologic music therapy services spanning from early childhood to end-of-life care, addressing a diverse spectrum of therapeutic needs. She actively advocates for the advancement of Music Therapy within the state and plays a pivotal role in program development and fostering community partnerships.
