STAR Program Application

The STEM Teacher and Researcher (STAR) Program offers paid summer research experiences for aspiring K-12 STEM teachers, which helps bring better teaching and learning practices into the classroom by embedding participants in real research laboratories and connecting them with experienced STEM educators.

If someone on your campus is pursuing a career in K-12 STEM education, please visit our newly refreshed website and apply for a summer of transformative research aimed at building your identity as a teacher -researcher.

Applicants should be junior standing by the start of the program, and no previous research experience is necessary (that’s where we come in – providing access to world-class research experiences).
STAR offers:

  • paid summer research opportunities for aspiring K-12 STEM teachers
  • authentic research at national, private and university lab settings
  • weekly education workshops

This opportunity is open to any California State University student who is pursuing a career in K-12 education, or any Noyce candidate nationwide.Please forward this information to any undergraduate, graduate or credential students who may be interested, and emphasize that no previous research experience is needed. 

Summer 2020 will mark our 14th year of partnership with over 25 cutting-edge research institutions affiliated with NASA, NOAA, NSF, USGS, DOD and DOE along with other independent and university laboratories, such as the SETI Institute, the Institute for Systems Biology and Biosphere 2. Fellowships are offered in biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and several engineering disciplines.

We are excited to announce several new lab site offerings for STAR 2020! Fermilab just outside of Chicago, The Ohio State University in Columbus, and UC Santa Cruz are all new sites coming aboard this coming summer.
