What do teachers need to know?
- High School teachers deliver URI approved college course content in the high school classroom.
- High school teachers can only teach the URI approved department syllabus with all designated books and course materials.
- High school teachers are supervised by a URI faulty member. Supervision may include on site visits, observation of classes, reading student papers, checking teacher comments on student work and teaching model lessons.
- High school teachers are expected to attend dual/concurrent information meetings, participate in any online forums, meet URI established protocols regarding registration and student drops, attend any specific professional development training required by the URI department and have the appropriate facility and resources necessary to teach an approved class at your high school.
Approval process
High school teachers MUST submit ALL official undergraduate and graduate digital transcripts and a current resume to: christine@uri.edu.
The Office of Strategic Initiatives will share your information with the URI department and/or college for review and approval. Once approved by URI, teachers must sign the URI Approval to Teach form and complete a USP-18 form for URI’s HR department. This process enables us to list you as the instructor of record in eCampus.
Teacher Responsibilities
All approved teachers are required to:
- Use the OSI Class Roster Template, which we will send you via a link, to list your HS student names seeking to enroll for URI credit. Students should be listed in alphabetical order.
- Access eCampus with your own log in information or contact URI ITS.
- Assign each student a permission number- uploaded to your Class Roster Template- so that they can register for your course in eCampus.
- Review their official class roster in eCampus to make sure all students seeking URI credit are listed enrolled.
- Follow all URI policies and deadlines, including class drop dates (see the URI Academic Calendar), Incomplete grading criteria, MTH 111-specific requirements, conditional enrollment approvals, engagement expectations, and GPA standards. Please advise any student who chooses not to pursue college credit but has already enrolled through eCampus to formally drop the course in the URI system.
- Record all grades by the scheduled end date of your course. For the spring term, June 10 will be the standard course end date—unless you are following the URI college semester schedule or teaching graduating seniors. All final grades must be entered into the URI system no later than June 15.
