Dual Enrollment

Overview

The URI Dual Enrollment Program offers HS students the opportunity to enroll in college-level courses at URI as a part time non-matriculating student. It is not admission to URI.

The state’s Prepare RI Initiative will provide funding for every qualifying public HS student to take college courses from Rhode Island’s public postsecondary institutions as part of their high school requirements at no cost to the student or family.

Under the dual enrollment guidelines, the state will cover the cost of up to 11 credits for students to take each semester (fall and spring). The credits must meet the student’s HS graduation requirements to be eligible for payment. This initiative does not cover the cost for any summer course enrollments.  Textbooks and/or other course materials are covered by the student’s school district.

The state will NOT cover the cost for private school or homeschooled students to take college courses. Students and their families are responsible for covering these costs.

For public high school students to enroll in courses under the dual enrollment program, please first discuss this option with your HS guidance counselor. There is eligibility criteria you must meet for this program. If you enroll in course(s) that do not meet the eligibility requirements, then you will be personally responsible for the charges.

There is no guarantee of an open seat for any non-matriculating high school student for any of your course choice(s).
