Force-extension of single molecules as statistically interacting quasi-particles.

abstract
Experiments which controllably apply a tension to the end of a single molecule, such as a strand of DNA, have shown highly nontrivial force-extension behavior. Modeling this observed behavior has led to a substantial field of research. We propose a new methodology: ensembles of statistically interacting quasi-particles. We will show that this methodology is capable of reproducing and improving upon results from well established models in this field, such as the Freely Jointed Chain (FJC) model and the Worm-like Chain (WLC) model.
