Be a Pre-Health Ambassador

Job Description

Pre-Health Ambassadors are volunteer leaders within the community of students interested in health careers at the University of Rhode Island. Ambassadors serve as mentors and role models by sharing their experience and tips for success with fellow pre-health students. They work closely with the pre-health professions advisors to provide information to students across campus about resources, admission processes, academic options, and experiential opportunities.

Among the activities with which the Pre-Health Ambassadors assist are:

  • Admission events, including Fall Open House Days, Spring Welcome Days, and prospective student visits.
  • Information sessions, including promoting the sessions and participating in the presentations including a New Student Meeting and Sophomore Meeting in September.
  • Program development, including assessment of the Ambassador Program and developing new programs to address the evolving needs of Pre-Health students.
  • Outreach and education, including event promotion, maintaining regular contact with a cohort of new students and connecting with student organizations.
  • On an as-needed basis, talk to fellow students who want to get an experienced peer’s perspective on pursuing health careers.

The Ambassador position is a volunteer opportunity to develop leadership and communication skills, while gaining a deep knowledge of the process of becoming a health care professional. Ambassadors also build new connections across the University and recognition among peers and faculty.

As an ambassador, your time commitment will be an average of 4-5 hours per week, with some weeks requiring more or less of your time. You will be expected to attend regular meetings, at least one Fall Open House, at least one Spring Welcome Day, and at least two pre-health organized events per semester. You will assist the Pre-Health Advising team in creating content for our students including but not limited to short videos and Instagram posts. You will also work with the group on major events and be available for other assignments as needed. The Ambassadors report to the pre-health program advisors in the Honors Program.
