Connie’s Advice: LEARN ABOUT YOURSELF!! It seems counterintuitive that this is the most important part because healthcare is all about being selfless and helping others (as it should be), but what good are you to others if you don’t truly understand who you are and what you’re meant to do? Learn about what brings you joy, what you do with passion, and then try to understand why. Learn what your weaknesses are, what you can do to improve, and how you handle life in the face of adversity. And finally, learn what your “why” is. Why will you choose to show up to work in this profession on both the good days and the bad days – on those days that are hard and the days you don’t feel like it? Knowing all of these things will not only make filling out applications and interviewing easier, but more importantly will make you a better provider for someone someday – your future patients are counting on you!
