Minor in Psychology

Requirements

The minor in Psychology is very straightforward and consistent with the university standards as presented in the University Bulletin. Minor requirements for psychology are met by:

  • Completing (18 or more) credits in psychology courses;
  • Must include PSY 113;
  • Only 3 credits in experiential courses for letter grades – PSY 305, PSY 473, PSY 488, or PSY 489 count towards minor;
  • GPA must be 2.00 or above;
  • At least 8 of the 18 credits must be taken at URI;
  • Courses for the minor cannot be taken pass/fail or S/U;

Steps to Take

To declare a minor in Psychology, you must have the approval of the Psychology chairperson and the dean. Application for the minor must be filed in the academic dean’s office no later than the beginning of your final semester or term.

  1. Download and complete the Add a Minor Form.
  2. Email or drop off the form in the Department of Psychology office in Chafee 306.
  3. The Department Chair will review your courses and sign your form if you have met the requirements.
  4. You can pick it up or it will be emailed to you, usually the next day. If approved, you will then turn the form in to Enrollment Services and the minor is listed on the transcript, pending satisfactory completion of the final course(s).
