Biography
Alana is a doctoral candidate in the Clinical Psychology Ph.D. program under the mentorship of Dr. Nicole Weiss. She graduated with her BA in Psychology and Anthropology from the University of Texas at San Antonio, and earned her Masters in Clinical Psychology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Prior to matriculation at the University of Rhode Island, she worked as a counselor intern for NASA Johnson Space Center’s Employee Assistance Program. He Hawaiʻi ʻo ʻĀlana, mau a mau.
Research
Alana’s research interests include investigating the intersections among trauma, substance use, and suicide in Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities. Alana is particularly interested in using qualitative and mixed methods in her program of research. Alana is currently completing an NIH F31 that uses mixed-methods to examine historical trauma, substance use, and suicidal behavior in Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders.
