Psychology Club

The Psychology Club holds weekly and bi-weekly meetings to discuss psychology-related topics, upcoming events, outreach opportunities, and career aspirations.

Psi Chi

Psi Chi is the international honor society for Psychology. The URI chapter of Psi Chi has been active for more than 20 years… and our membership is increasing. This year, we want to induct you! Some of the benefits associated with Psi Chi membership are described below.

Participation in the URI chapter of Psi Chi can help you prepare for graduate school in several ways. You will interact regularly with upper-level students and learn about their experiences with the Graduate Record Exam and their applications to graduate schools. You also will have the opportunity to attend several career workshops throughout the semester.

Membership Requirements

You can apply to become a member of Psi Chi if you:

  • have completed at least nine (9) credit hours in psychology including Psychology 113, 300, and 301, or are currently enrolled in PSY301;
  • have declared Psychology as either your major or minor course of study;
  • have attained at least a 3.0 cumulative average, as well as at least a “B” average in psychology courses;
  • exhibit high standards of personal behavior;
  • provide a personal statement that indicates why you wish to become a member of Psi Chi;
  • receive a three-fourths affirmative vote of Psi Chi members at a regular meeting of the chapter.

Joint Events

Additionally, the Psychology Club collaborates with Psi Chi to organize:

  • Networking events to meet faculty, researchers, and practitioners
  • Food/clothing/toy drives to benefit at-risk populations
  • Department outreach at open houses and welcome events
  • Volunteer events for habitat for humanity, local hospitals, and nursing homes
  • Fun off-campus activities: haunted hayrides, apple picking, and more!
  • Faculty Coffee Hours and Research Discussions
  • Teleconferencing with graduate students
  • Pop Culture and psychology TV viewing and discussions
