I’m from Atlanta, GA, and I majored in Public Health at URI with a specialization in Health Services. What surprised me most about URI is how much I was able to interact with all the students even though it’s such a large school. It felt smaller than it is, and it was fun to be a part of it.

The best part of my experience here was playing hockey, and being a part of a major that I was invested in made every single day fun. I was able to go to class and learn about things that I’m passionate about and then go play the best sport in the world! In my time in Men’s Hockey, I was an assistant captain for one season and a captain for two seasons.

My advice for fellow Public Health majors would be to do some research and find what’s important to you. Don’t be afraid to ask questions either. Everyone’s path to get where they want to be looks different. The biggest strength of the Public Health major is exposing students to real life issues, data, and facts. Finding the why of a problem is the best way to come up with realistic solutions that will have an impact on those problems.

Since graduating with my Public Health degree, I will be earning a second degree in Exercise Science and applying to Physical Therapy school!
