The use of controlled substances in research at the University of Rhode Island requires compliance with state and federal regulations including Rhode Island State Board of Pharmacy licensing and the federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration. The Office of Research Integrity (ORI) has developed a manual that outlines roles and responsibilities and is prepared to assist researchers in meeting the requirements for obtaining, using, storing, securing, and disposing of controlled substances.
