Work with certain biological agents may require medical counseling, medical surveillance, and immunization. Biological Research involving recombinant DNA (rDNA), biological agents (i.e., viable infectious microorganisms (including prions) regardless of their pathogenicity to humans), human or nonhuman primate materials (e.g., blood, cells, tissue), or certain biological toxins requires biosafety training and an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) Registration. All staff and students must complete biosafety training provided by EH&S and be listed on an approved IBC Registration.

If you have an occupational concern involving biological agents, complete the Health Form for Animal or Laboratory Facilities Use or contact health@uri.edu or 401-874-2246 and ask for the occupational health nurse practitioner for a confidential medical consultation.
