–Faculty and staff can borrow laptops for up to two weeks.
–Exceptions may be made under special circumstances, subject to availability.
–Laptops are not available for extended travel, sabbaticals, or as departmental replacements.
Can I install new software on the laptop?
–Yes, subject to advance consultation with RamTech and existing user or University software licenses.
–Laptops have been configured to stay in compliance with United States Federal export regulations and URI security policies.
–They are configured to balance security and convenience and are not intended to replace your usual, daily use laptop.
Can I work with URI data on a loaner device? In order to comply with the URI’s security policy, state laws, and Federal export and privacy laws, you should not copy or download any sensitive URI data, proprietary data or government controlled information onto the hard drive of a loaner computer.
–Sensitive URI data includes, but is not limited to research data, URI business information, and the personally identifiable information of students, faculty, and staff.
–Government controlled information includes classified information (at any level), controlled unclassified information (CUI), For Official Use Only information (FOUO), and export controlled information.
–Also you must not carry any such data on thumb drives or any other data storage medium while traveling internationally.
Receiving or sending such data to or from the cloud or via email while traveling internationally may be a violation of export control laws as well as a high security risk.
