Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias gradually diminish a person’s ability to communicate. Communicating with a person living with Alzheimer’s or a related dementia, and their caregivers requires patience, and understanding. At the end of the session, learners will have an improved understanding of the different stages of Alzheimer’s disease and how this affects the person’s ability to communicate.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Identify the different stages of Alzheimer’s disease
- Identify communication changes that occur in each stage of Alzheimer’s disease
- Establish strategies for effectively communicating with people living with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia
