Chair and Professor, Biomedical Data Science
Professor, Systems Biology
Dr. Michael L. Whitfield is Chair and Professor of Biomedical Data Science, and Professor of Molecular & Systems Biology at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. He is the founder and Director of the Dartmouth Center for Quantitative Biology, and Co-Director of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund Big Data in the Life Sciences Training Program, promoting integration of bioinformatics, medicine, biology, biostatistics and epidemiology. Dr. Whitfield’s research is focused on mining big data, systems biology and genomic networks in autoimmunity and fibrosis, with a focus on scleroderma. His group has made seminal advances in understanding the heterogeneity in scleroderma using machine learning algorithms, applying these approaches in scleroderma clinical trials, and using the data to understand molecular changes and target engagement.
