Dr. Mary Cushman is a Professor of Medicine and Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of Vermont (UVM). She is Vice-Chair for Emerging Researchers of the Department of Medicine, Director of the Thrombosis and Hemostasis Program in the Hematology-Oncology Division of UVM Medical Center, Board Director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute at UVM and Co-Director of the Vermont Center for Cardiovascular and Brain Health, UVM’s new National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE). With continuous NIH funding for 25 years, Dr. Cushman studies causative factors for heart disease, stroke, cognitive impairment and venous thrombosis using molecular epidemiology approaches. Among many accolades, Cushman recently was named a University Scholar at UVM, and received the American Heart Association’s Population Research Prize and their Award of Meritorious Achievement for her impact on promoting the careers of early career professionals and women in science and medicine.
