Demographics

This database contains information on all 39 cities and towns in Rhode Island, including life expectancy and other population health indicators, social and economic conditions, environmental characteristics, demographic information, crime, and other information. You can download the entire data set or filter the data for your own analysis.

Rhode Island has a total population of 1,057,315 as of July 1, 2018, according to the US Census Bureau, an increase of 0.4% since the 2010 US Census. Approximately 1/6 of the population is age 65 and above, over one quarter of the population (27.5%) is non-White, and 13.7% are foreign-born.

We did not find a strong correlation between life expectancy and demographic measures, such as percent White, percent Black, percent Hispanic/Latino, and all the other racial and ethnic measures. However, higher life expectancy was found in cities and towns with higher percentages of households headed by married couples (correlation = 0.39) and percentages of population aged 65+ (correlation = 0.33).
