Research: I study host-probiotic-pathogen interactions for better disease management in East Coast oysters (Crassostrea virginica). We work with probiotics for oysters that protect them from a pathogen, Vibrio coralliilyticus that causes massive mortality in larval stages. My goal is to understand whether the probiotics stimulate the immune system of the oyster or act as immunomodulators in order to provide protection from the pathogen.
