IO-10: Developing Luminescence Methods for Phosphate Detection in Seawater

Mentor: John Breen (Providence College)

Project Location

Providence College

Project Description

We are exploring luminescence displacement assays for phosphate in seawater. Our work is based on the well established phosphate binding chemistry involving molecules containing two closely spaced dipicolylamine (DPA) ligands each binding a zinc ion. In this work we are assessing the sensitivity of our methods with different small molecule scaffolds and transition metal complex ions to which the DPA/Zn moieties are attached as well as cations other than zinc.
