URI-COE – Analytical Core

The Engineering Analytical Core  is located in the Fascitelli Center for Advanced Engineering and is managed by Dr. Vinka Craver, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering (craver@uri.edu). The equipment contained in this core includes:

  • Shimadzu LCMS-8060. Ultra High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography (UPLC) Triple Quadrupole UPLC/MS/MS system for ultra-trace analysis with high-sensitive Multiple Reaction Monitoring (MRM) component analysis.
  • Shimadzu Nexera-XR ultra. Fully-integrated high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system with three detectors: the SPD-M20A, RF 20A and Sedex 90 ELSD detector.
  • Shimadzu ICPMS-2030. Inductively Coupled Mass Spectrometer with autosampler and collision cell.
  • Shimadzu GCMS-TQ8050 NX. Triple Quadrupole GC/MS/MS for ultra-trace analysis. Includes Purge & Trap autosampler. AOC-6000 autosampler. With three injection tools: liquid, headspace, and solid phase microextraction (SPME).
  • Shimadzu RF-6000 Spectrofluorometer. Xenon lamp with high-speed scanning of 60,000 nm/min. Extended range scan wavelength up to 900 nm.
  • Shimadzu DSC-60A Plus. This device can measure phase changes starting at -140⁰C. This model also comes with a 24-pan autosampler.

Below is the calculated fee per hour of use of each piece of equipment (with a minimum charge of 1 hr.). The fee covers consumables such as gases, tubing replacements, etc. The fee will also be used for any incidental or reparation that is not covered by the current service agreement with Shimadzu. Standards, solvents, and vials that you will need for your specific protocol are not covered.

Here are some preliminary rules to request to use equipment:

-Only graduate students that have participated in the Shimadzu training are allowed to use the equipment. We will be scheduling on-demand additional training when 3-4 students request training for specific equipment. Please contact coeanalytical@etal.uri.edu for requesting training for your students.

-To schedule the equipment user will need first to check the calendar on the website( https://sites.google.com/uri.edu/analytical-core-updates/gc-ms?authuser=0) and then request a time with at least 24hrs in advance by email coeanalytical@etal.uri.edu

– Users need to fill the google form with the time they use the equipment and the billing information (Analytical Core Hours Log).

– If there are any problems with the equipment, users should send an email detailing the problem to coeanalytical@etal.uri.edu

– General consumables gases, tubing, etc. can be requested through coeanalytical@etal.uri.edu

– The facility is only open for internal users. If you are interested in providing services to external users, please let us know, and we can help you set up the contract or agreement.

– Nicoly Welter is the graduate student coordinating the use of the facility, and she will be the main point of contact in case of questions (coeanalytical@etal.uri.edu)

Sincerely,

Core Analytical Facility
