Bachelor of Arts in Sociology
Overview
Majoring in sociology allows you to study complex issues of human behavior and society, and give you the tools to create tangible change in the world. You’ll explore human nature in depth, both in the classroom and through a variety of experiential learning and fieldwork opportunities. You will gain highly marketable skills that include the ability to make empirically based arguments, collect and analyze data, and communicate effectively, all of which consistently appear among national policy priorities and employer surveys.
Our faculty have expertise in a broad range of topics including gender inequality, immigration, crime and delinquency, labor markets, families and care work, reproduction and aging, poverty, and international development. We offer experiential learning programs—both abroad in Italy and Mexico, and here in Rhode Island—that will provide you with hands-on learning related to globalization, multiculturalism, and juvenile justice. We will prepare you for a variety of careers in education, public service, law enforcement, and law—or for advanced study in the nation’s leading graduate and professional schools.
