COMMITTEE DISCUSSION:

Muslim Student Association

  • Requesting $1,550 for 3rd Annual Eid Banquet on October 25th in the Memorial Union ballroom
  • Event is to promote cultural awareness
  • Successful last year – about 200 attended, 15o students
  • The group is covering the cost of the speaker and henna. They are requesting money for catering and decorations
  • Coming back next week with accurate quotes

Outing Club

  • Requesting money for 300 punch passes for rock climbing
  • Rock Spot is more beneficial to them than the new rock climbing gym on campus
  • Last year successful with 200, but members of the club did not all get to take advantage of the passes because they were sold out
  • Solution: manage the punch passes themselves and sell at meeting
  • Punch passes are specifically for events
  • Student Tax dollars are not to be used, with limited exceptions, for off campus events
  • Coming back next week for further consideration

The 5 Cent Cigar

  • Requesting money to buy a special type of printer – $2,958
  • They need 3 options for us to choose from because it’s over $2,5000
  • Printer is used to print advertisements daily. The most important use for the printer is that it’s an all in one – scanner, copier and printer.
  • Their current equipment is outdated and prints “muddy”
  • The “muddiness” is from lack of proper care and hasn’t been maintained in years
  • They don’t know how long they intend to keep the printer. They may go with the lease option which is 4 year option.
  • They have not investigated into requesting a quote for maintenance kit –
  • This printer’s scan and copy options don’t work well
  • This is a capital improvement and not typically looked at until the end of the semester

Science, Mathematics, Investigating Learning Experience Club

  • Movie night, the movie will be related to science to correlate with mission statement – the movie 21 or Avatar
  • This event is set for 10/4 from 9-11 pm, most likely a room in the MCC
  • Expecting 10-15 people to attend
  • Alcohol free event
  • No location picked yet
  • Asking for $60 to cover costs at Ronzio: pizza, soda, chips
  • Motion to grant $50 for food

  • All in favor: 4

Dressage Club

  • Requesting money for half the cost two hotel rooms at $170 per night for 4 students
  • All in favor of granting $170: 3 (Walker left)

  • Want reimbursement because they have no money
  • They need to return this and not buy things again without asking beforehand
