Music Minor

The Minor in Music Voice Performance for Theatre Majors provides students who are theatre majors with the opportunity for more concentrated and focused study in voice and other areas of music.

Requirements

Theatre students who wish to declare this minor must earn credit for MUS 220 (3), and MUS 111 (3) or 115 (1) and 116 (1); and MUS 220 (3). Additionally, students must earn a minimum of 8 credits in voice over four semesters MUS 210A (8) and MUS 108, 317 or 300 (1). Lastly, students must pursue three semesters of an ensemble selected from: MUS 293, MUS 395, MUS 485, and MUS 398Z (3) with up to two semesters of MUS 485 and MUS 398Z counting toward the ensemble requirement.

Students can be admitted to the Minor degree program only after a successful audition in the principal applied music area and should contact the Department of Music for specific requirements. Transfer credits in music theory, music history, and performance must be validated by placement examination. The minimum number of credits required for this option is 18 or 19, of which 12 credits must be at the 200-level.
