Transfer Credits

Spring 2026 Transfer Registration

Transfer registration for Spring 2026 begins November 14, continuing through January. Register through e-Campus after meeting with your advisor.

Sending Credits to URI

To post your transfer credits, the University of Rhode Island must receive your official transcripts from each of your prior institutions. Please be sure to request that all final transcripts are sent directly to URI as soon as they are available.

  • The preferred method is to send an official electronic transcript to: admission@uri.edu
  • If an electronic transcript is not available, paper transcripts may be mailed to: Office of Undergraduate Admission, 14 Upper College Road, Kingston, RI 02881

For additional details about submitting transcripts, please also review the instructions provided on the URI Admission website

Transfer Course Eligibility

According to the University Manual, Section 8.21.10, students must earn a minimum grade of “C” (2.00 on a 4.00 scale) or better in order for a course to be considered for transfer credit at URI. Courses with grades of “C-” or below are not transferable.

If a course has already been evaluated by a URI academic department, the approved URI equivalent will appear in the Transfer Evaluation System (TES). You can search for your prior institution in TES to view courses previously approved for transfer.

Important: If your course does not appear in TES, this does not mean it will be denied. Many courses and learning experiences require individual review. URI faculty will evaluate the course description and may request a syllabus to determine whether it has a URI equivalent and how it may apply to your degree program.

It is important to work closely with your academic advisor and your college dean’s office to ensure that transfer credits are not only accepted by URI, but are also applicable toward your degree requirements. This step helps you avoid taking courses that may not advance your academic progress.

For additional details, please also review the URI Admission Transfer Credit Policies page.

Who to Contact About Transfer Credits

Understanding how your transfer credits move through URI is important — and at every stage, advisors and your dean’s office are key partners in the process. They ensure that your credits not only transfer, but also count toward your academic goals and degree requirements.

Here’s how the process works, and where advising fits in:

  1. Transcript Processing – Your official transcripts are received by the Office of Admission. Many advisor have access to help you confirm that all transcripts have been received.
  2. Evaluation – Courses are reviewed by the appropriate college or department to determine transferability. Advisors and dean’s offices help interpret evaluations and advocate when additional information is needed.
  3. Posting – Once approved, credits are officially posted to your academic record in e-Campus. Advisors work with you to make sure posted credits reflect your academic history accurately.
  4. Advising & Degree Planning – After posting, your assigned advisor and/or dean’s office guides you in understanding how these credits apply to your degree plan and what courses you should take next.

Reviewing Your Transfer Credits

Transcripts are evaluated within 21 days of acceptance to URI. You will then be able to access your transfer credit report, which will list all of your accepted transfer courses and their URI equivalents.

Accessing Your Transfer Credit Report

  • For New Students: Once you pay your admission deposit, you will gain full access to e-Campus, including your degree audit, transfer credit report, and course scheduling tools. Transfer credit evaluations are typically completed within 21 days of acceptance. Please monitor your email for updates. If you have not received your evaluation after 21 days, contact your college’s evaluator using the information in the advising contact grid.
  • For Continuing Students (with e-Campus access): When your credits have been posted, you can view your Transfer Credit Report in e-Campus. This report lists all accepted transfer courses and their URI equivalents. Use this report when meeting with your advisor to plan your Spring 2026 schedule.

How to Interpret Your Transfer Credit Report

Your Transfer Credit Report shows how each of your prior courses has been evaluated at URI. There are three main ways that transfer credits can be applied:

  1. General Education Credit – The course fulfills a general education requirement at URI (e.g., Writing and Communication, Math, Social and Behavioral Sciences).
  2. Major Credit – The course is accepted as an equivalent course within your major and counts directly toward your program requirements.
  3. Elective Credit – The course transfers as a general elective. This means it counts toward the total credits needed for graduation, but may not fulfill a specific general education or major requirement.

Below are examples as to how your credits will transfer to URI:

 Transfer Credit Re-evaluation

Students who do not agree with how their transfer credit was originally evaluated may request a re-evaluation. The process depends on your academic standing.

First-Year Students & Students in The Fannon Institute for Student Success:

Students advised through The Fannon Institute for Student Success (formerly University College) should contact Transfer Student Success (TSS).

Please complete the Transfer Credit Re-evaluation Form (PDF) and submit it to: John Rooney, Assistant Director, Transfer Student Success, Email: rooney@uri.edu

Declared Majors (in a degree-granting college):

Students should contact their college dean’s office and follow that college’s transfer credit re-evaluation process. Many colleges have their own forms and process to follow. You should review your college’s website for the identified form(s) and process.

What to Include and What to Expect

When submitting a re-evaluation request, be sure to follow all directions on the form and include your URI ID number, a detailed course syllabus, and (when available) a catalog description or other supporting materials

Your request will be reviewed by the appropriate faculty/department, who will decide whether the course can count as General Education, Major, or Elective credit. Because review timelines vary by department, please monitor your URI email for updates.

Before submitting, it is strongly recommended that you meet with your advisor. Advisors can help you prepare complete materials and confirm how the credit may fit into your degree plan.

Please note that submitting a re-evaluation request does not guarantee that the credit will be reassigned or approved for additional use toward your degree.
