Tools, Systems, and Resources
After your deposit is processed, incoming transfer students should begin setting up the systems and platforms needed to register for classes at URI, send and receive official University communications, and prepare for your first semester.

Your advising meeting connects your transfer credits, major requirements, and first-semester course options. It is also the best time to ask how pending credits, current courses, prerequisites, course sequencing, and degree requirements may affect your URI schedule.
If your transfer credits are still pending, you can still begin preparing. Gather unofficial transcripts, current course information, and syllabi or course descriptions for any courses that may need additional review.
If you are unsure where to begin, John Rooney, Assistant Director, Transfer Student Success, can help identify the appropriate advising next step.
Advising By Major Evaluation & Posting InnformationBefore You Schedule
Review your URI email, eCampus, Starfish, and transfer credit information before requesting an advising appointment. Confirm what has been posted, what may still be pending, and what questions you need answered before registration.
Advising Tools
| Tool | Use It For |
|---|---|
| Transfer Credit | Review transfer credit information, transcript guidance, and re-evaluation steps. |
| Advising by Major | Find advising information connected to your major or college. |
| Evaluation & Posting Contacts | Contact information, by college, for evaluators across campus. |
| Starfish | Locate advising resources and scheduling tools when available. |
| MyApps / eCampus | Access student records, registration tools, and posted academic information. |
| Student Gateway | Access common URI tools and student resources. |
When requesting help with advising or registration, include enough information to make the appointment useful. Most students should email their department chair; the correct contact information is on the department’s or college’s website. Be sure to include in your correspondence the following:
- Your 9-digit URI ID number
- Your major or intended major
- Your current or most recent courses
- Any missing, pending, or unexpected transfer credits
- Any specific registration questions
- Your general availability for an appointment
If you are unsure who to contact for advising, please contact Fannon Institute’s Reception at 401.874.2993 or email John Rooney.

Transfer URI 101
Transfer URI 101 is a one-credit course that helps new transfer students transition to URI, plan their academic path, explore campus resources, and connect with peers.
It is required for some transfer students and recommended for many others. Ask Transfer Student Success or your advisor whether Transfer URI 101 is appropriate for your first semester.

Prepare for Transfer Orientation

Use orientation to confirm remaining questions, review campus resources, make schedule adjustments if needed, and continue preparing for your first semester.
