Monica Garnes, ’94, is the award-winning president of Fry’s Food Stores, and The Kroger Co.’s first Black division president. She is an expert on business management, leadership strategy, corporate sustainability, and workplace diversity, and runs all 127 Arizona-based Fry’s Food Stores locations.
She currently sits on the Arizona Commerce Authority Board, Phoenix Suns Charities Board of Directors, Friends of the Food Bank Advisory Council at St. Mary’s Food Bank, The University of Rhode Island Board of Trustees, and more. Monica is also the previous Executive Chair for Kroger’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Senior Executive Advisory Board.
She has received many honors including “Top Women in Grocery” and “Retail Trailblazer” (Progressive Grocer), “Most Innovative Women in Food and Drink” (Fortune Magazine and Food and Wine Magazine), “Outstanding Women in Business” (Phoenix Business Journal), and more. She has also been featured as leader in Ebony Magazine and was recently honored during the YWCA’s Tribute to Leadership.
