Monica J. Garnes

Monica Garnes ’94 is the award-winning President of the Kroger Atlanta Division and the first Black division president in the history of The Kroger Co. She is a recognized leader in business management, leadership strategy, corporate sustainability, and workplace diversity. In her role, she oversees all aspects of merchandising and operations for 181 stores across Georgia, South Carolina, and Alabama.

Ms. Garnes has served on the Arizona Commerce Authority Board; the Dignity Health – Arizona Market Board of Community Advisors; the Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation Advisory Board; and the Friends of the Food Bank Advisory Council at St. Mary’s Food Bank. She previously served as Executive Chair of Kroger’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Advisory Council.

Ms. Garnes has earned numerous honors for her leadership, innovation, and community impact. Her recognitions include Woman of the Year (Arizona Capitol Times); Top Women in Grocery and Retail Trailblazer (Progressive Grocer); Most Innovative Women in Food and Drink (Fortune and Food & Wine); Outstanding Women in Business (Phoenix Business Journal); and Most Influential Women in Arizona Business (Arizona Business Magazine). She has also been recognized as an executive leader by Ebony and honored at the YWCA Tribute to Leadership. In addition, she is a recipient of the ATHENA Award from the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, an internationally recognized honor for excellence in professional leadership, community service, and mentorship.
